Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has praised President Bola Tinubu’s reform agenda, citing its positive impact across the country.

The governor made his remarks during a meeting with members of a House of Representatives ad-hoc committee dedicated to the rehabilitation and operation of the Baro Inland Port.

Governor Bago stated that the President’s reforms have brought about significant positive changes and thanked him for making resources available to states to foster economic growth.

He described these initiatives as crucial for sustainable development and improved public services.

The governor also applauded the House of Representatives for forming the committee to finally revive the Baro port, calling it a “Nigerian project.” Bago noted that his administration has long prioritized the port’s revitalization, and he revealed ongoing efforts to address logistical challenges.

The state government is working with the Nigeria Railway Corporation to reactivate the Baro-Minna rail line, which will help reduce road traffic.

Additionally, a road project from Katcha to Baro is currently underway in collaboration with the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

During the meeting, Governor Bago also highlighted the alarming rate of boat accidents in the state, advocating for a partnership with Lagos State to better manage water resources.

He also called for the establishment of a National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) office in Minna.

Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, the committee’s leader, thanked Governor Bago for his support. He explained that the committee, chaired by Hon. Saidu Musa Abdul, is on a fact-finding mission to assess the Baro port, which he called a “gateway to Nigeria’s economy.”

Wase reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to addressing infrastructural deficits and urged parliamentarians to support these efforts through their oversight functions.
