Eagle’s Unbeaten Run Intact As Poland Draw 2-2
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle maintained his unbeaten start with Nigeria after a dramatic 2-2 draw against Poland on Wednesday night.
Fresh from their triumph at the 2026 Unity Cup in London, the Super Eagles began with confidence and quickly silenced the home crowd. Terem Moffi continued his fine scoring form, striking early to hand Nigeria the lead. The visitors controlled much of the first half and looked set to carry their advantage into the break.
Poland, however, struck back just before halftime. A lapse in Nigeria’s defence allowed Potulski to head home the equaliser, shifting momentum as both sides went into the interval level.
The second half saw Nigeria regain control, pressing forward with purpose. Their persistence paid off in the 77th minute when the referee awarded a penalty. Paul Onuachu stepped up and calmly converted, restoring Nigeria’s lead and putting Chelle’s men on course for another victory.
But the hosts refused to surrender. Deep into stoppage time, Wisniewski broke Nigerian hearts with a late strike, ensuring Poland salvaged a draw. The result extended Chelle’s unbeaten run but denied Nigeria a statement win on European soil.
For Chelle, the match highlighted both progress and areas for improvement. The Super Eagles showed attacking flair and resilience but were undone by defensive lapses at crucial moments. With the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers approaching, the draw serves as a reminder of the fine margins at international level.
Nigeria’s performance nevertheless reinforced optimism around Chelle’s tenure. His unbeaten streak reflects growing stability within the squad, while players like Moffi and Onuachu continue to deliver in front of goal. The test against Poland provided valuable experience as the team builds towards bigger challenges.
