Nigerian Female Wins N120m in Saudi Arabia’s Quran Recitation Competition
A female contestant from Nigeria, Maryam Danazimi Ibrahim has won 120 million naira, equivalent to 300,000 Saudi Riyals after emerging 1st in the Female Tafsir category of Hizb 60 at the just concluded 46th King Abdulaziz International Qur’an Competition which occurred in Makkah.
In the second category which requires memorisation of the complete Quran with good recitation and Tajweed and interpretation of Quranic language, Ms Danazimi from Gombe state in Northern Nigeria won.
The lady was one of the 50 winners – 25 male and 25 female – of the competition in five categories.
Saudi Arabia has announced the winners of the 46th King Abdulaziz International Competition for the Memorisation, Recitation and Interpretation of the Holy Quran. Rewards worth SAR 10.26 million have been announced.
The tournament attracted 334 male and female candidates from 133 nations around the world.
On behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, Prince Saud bin Mishaal, Deputy Governor of the Makkah Region, handed out awards to the victors.
The 46th edition also marked the first-ever involvement of female contestants in the worldwide competition with 132 women with 202 male contestants.
Female Winners – Category Two
The second category was devoted to memorisation of the whole Quran with good recitation and Tajweed and understanding of Quranic language.

The winners from Asia, Africa, Europe, Middle East and the Americas came from countries including Saudi Arabia, Syria, Kyrgyzstan, Cameroon, Algeria, Bahrain, Nigeria, Libya, Tunisia, Bangladesh, United Kingdom, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Brazil, Egypt, Ghana, Maldives, Kenya, Palestine, Oman, Barbados, Central African Republic, Mauritius and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The King Abdulaziz International Quran Competition is hosted by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance. The final rounds of the 46th edition took place in Makkah.
