“Nigerians Annoyed Me” — Bimbo Akintola Reveals Why She Supported Tinubu

Nollywood actress, Bimbo Akintola, has revealed that online bullying over political choices influenced her decision to publicly support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.

Akintola made the disclosure during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, where she spoke about the criticism people face over their political preferences.

The actress said the backlash veteran actress Joke Silva received over her support for Tinubu also influenced her decision to openly declare her own support for the then-All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate.

“I supported President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the last election because Nigerians annoyed me with their bullying,” Akintola said.

She recalled seeing the criticism directed at Silva and said it prompted her to make a video publicly declaring her support for Tinubu despite the possibility of facing similar backlash.

“They bullied Aunty Joke to the point that someone wrote something that was so inhumane. So, I made a video and said, ‘I’m also supporting Tinubu, kill me, let me see if you can change my mind,’” she said.

Akintola urged Nigerians to respect differing political opinions, saying people should be allowed to make their own choices without being bullied because of their political preferences.

“Nigerians are annoying. Don’t bully other people. We have our rights to differences of opinion. You don’t like this man, cool, you have the right not to like him. You prefer this person, good for you. But don’t bully others,” she added.

Akintola further said political disagreements should not prevent people from expressing their personal choices.

“We need to stop bullying. We need to agree that we can never agree with everybody. That’s what makes us great and beautiful. If we are all the same, it would be a boring life,” she said.

“Till tomorrow, you might not agree that he was the best person for the job, but at that point, that was who I wanted, that was who I voted for. You can’t take my voice away from me; it’s mine.”
