NIS Intercepts 17 Irregular Migrants, Arrests Two With N34m Ransom In Adamawa

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has intercepted 17 irregular migrants in Adamawa State.

In a separate operation, the agency also arrested two suspected kidnappers found with ₦34 million in cash, which they allegedly admitted was ransom payment.

It was learnt that the two suspects, identified as 55-year-old Alhaji Jaye and 34-year-old Buba Bello, were arrested on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

During preliminary investigations, the suspects reportedly confessed that the money was intended as ransom for the release of a captive.

Meanwhile, the NIS Adamawa State Command said its operatives intercepted 17 undocumented migrants at a private residence in Rumde Baru, a community in Yola South Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by the office of the state NIS Comptroller, Sule Jega, the migrants comprised 13 Cameroonian nationals, including eight males and five females, as well as four male Chadian nationals.

The command expressed concern over the use of a private residence to accommodate the migrants, noting that undocumented migrants were increasingly shifting from hotels to private apartments.

The NIS said the development highlighted the need for closer monitoring of private accommodation facilities to prevent them from being used to harbour undocumented migrants.
