Ogun Government Mourns Veteran Actor, Ogogo

The Ogun State Government has expressed grief over the death of veteran actor and filmmaker, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

The state government described the death of the Ilaro-born actor as a major loss to Ogun State, Nigeria’s creative industry and the country as a whole.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the government described Hassan as an accomplished actor and cultural ambassador who made significant contributions to the promotion of Yoruba heritage.

According to the statement, Ogogo distinguished himself throughout his career through his artistry, discipline, humility, candour and professionalism, earning the respect of colleagues, fans and generations of Nigerians.

The government noted that as a native of Ilaro, Ogogo remained a proud ambassador of his community and used theatre, film and television to preserve and promote Nigeria’s cultural heritage, particularly the Yoruba language, traditions and values.

It said his death had created a painful void that would be deeply felt by his family, the people of Ilaro and Ogun State, members of the creative industry and his numerous admirers in Nigeria and beyond.

Akinmade said, “On behalf of the Ogun State Government and the good people of the state, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues in the creative industry, the people of Ilaro and his numerous fans across Nigeria and beyond.”

The government urged Nigerians to celebrate the life and achievements of the late actor, stressing that his works and contributions to Nigeria’s cultural heritage would continue to inspire future generations.

The statement added, “Taiwo Hassan, Ogogo, was a shining light. His voice may have fallen silent, but his works, values and contributions to our cultural heritage will continue to speak for generations.”

The Ogun State Government also prayed for the repose of his soul and asked God to give his family, friends and other mourners the strength to cope with the loss.
