The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Samson Ekata, for allegedly killing his 18-year-old pregnant girlfriend in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, disclosed this on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, while parading the suspect alongside other individuals arrested for various alleged crimes.

According to Daaor, the victim had reportedly been living with Ekata for about a year before the incident.
The police commissioner alleged that after killing the teenager, the suspect mutilated her body, severed one of her breasts and attempted to remove her unborn baby.
Suspect Claims Spiritual Influence
During an interview with journalists, Ekata admitted killing the woman but claimed that he committed the crime under spiritual influence.
He said he had never killed anyone before the incident and alleged that he began hearing voices instructing him to kill his pregnant girlfriend.
“I began hearing voices instructing me to kill her, but I initially resisted because she was pregnant.
“The same instruction came to me in a dream about two weeks later, prompting me to commit the crime.
“After killing her, I severed her breast as the spirit instructed me to do so,” he said.
The suspect also disclosed that he transported the victim’s body in a Toyota Corolla before dumping it by the roadside.
However, he denied being involved in any other killings, maintaining that the incident was his first.
Police Vow to Ensure Justice
Reacting to the incident, Daaor described the killing as a horrific crime and expressed sadness over the death of the pregnant teenager.
He commended members of the community for cooperating with the police, noting that their assistance played an important role in the suspect’s arrest.
The commissioner assured the public that the suspect would face the full weight of the law.
He also urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies to help prevent and combat crime across Edo State.
Daaor advised parents to pay closer attention to their children’s safety, particularly that of girls, warning that sexual predators and other dangerous individuals could exploit their vulnerability.
He further urged young women to exercise caution in their relationships and prioritise their safety when deciding whom to trust.
The police commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting residents and called for stronger cooperation between the public and security agencies to reduce crime across the state.
