Police Arrest Five Suspects Over Alleged Fraud, Transformer Vandalism, Others In Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with separate cases involving alleged fraud, vandalism of a community transformer and causing grievous hurt in different parts of the state.

The arrests were disclosed in a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, and made available to journalists on Thursday.

According to the statement, operatives of ‘A’ Division, Damaturu, arrested two suspects on August 6 over an alleged fraud case reported on July 31.

The suspects were identified as 26-year-old Mohammed Sani of Zanna Zakarya Housing Estate and 25-year-old Ali Isa Waziri of Waziri Ibrahim Housing Estate.

Police said the suspects allegedly obtained one carton of OBA Spaghetti and two half bags of parboiled rice from a shop along Ajari-Gashua Road, Damaturu, after an accomplice allegedly impersonated the complainant during a telephone call.

The stolen food items were recovered and kept as exhibits, while investigation continues ahead of possible prosecution.

In a separate incident, the Fika Divisional Police Headquarters received a report on August 6 that unknown persons had vandalised a community transformer and stolen its power cable.

Following the report, police operatives, working with community members and vigilantes, arrested 23-year-old Ibrahim Musa of Bizagula Ward, Potiskum, with the stolen cable.

Two other suspects were later arrested in connection with the alleged vandalism, while the stolen cable was also recovered as an exhibit.

The command also disclosed that it was investigating a case of grievous hurt reported at the Tarmuwa Division.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 22-year-old suspect allegedly shot a man with a bow and arrow after accusing him of being in a compromising situation with his wife near her parents’ residence in Danewa-Biriri Village, Tarmuwa Local Government Area.

The police said the victim is currently receiving treatment at the Police Hospital in Damaturu, while the suspect has been arrested.

The command said investigations into the various cases are ongoing.
