Police Arrest Four Suspected Cult Members, Recover Pistol, Ammunition In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity cult group and recovered a locally made Beretta pistol and one live 9mm ammunition during an intelligence-led operation in Mushin, Lagos State.

The arrests were carried out by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), following intelligence gathered on the activities of suspected cult members in Mushin and other parts of Lagos.

The police said the operation began with the arrest of a suspect identified as Irawo Moshod.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Lagos State Police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, Moshod allegedly admitted to being a former chairman of the Aiye Confraternity.

The police said information obtained from the suspect during questioning helped investigators identify other suspected members of the cult group and locate a firearm allegedly connected to the group.

Moshod also reportedly made disclosures about the activities of the Aiye Confraternity in Mushin and other areas of Lagos State. The police alleged that he gave information concerning his suspected involvement in several killings.

Following the information provided during the investigation, VCRU operatives moved to Idi-Oro, Mushin, where they recovered a locally made Beretta pistol and one live 9mm ammunition.

The police subsequently arrested three other suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity at Aganran by Ojuwoye in Mushin.

The suspects were identified as 29-year-old Abayomi James, 28-year-old Farouq Bankole and 19-year-old Steven Sunday.

The Lagos State Police Command said the three suspects allegedly admitted to being members of the Aiye Confraternity during questioning.

They reportedly told investigators that the recovered firearm was allegedly obtained from a man identified as Rilwan, whom they described as the group’s number one member.

The four suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators with the ongoing investigation into cult-related activities and other alleged crimes linked to the group.

The police said efforts have also been intensified to arrest other suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity who may be connected to the activities under investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the VCRU operatives for what he described as a proactive and intelligence-led operation against cult-related criminal activities in Lagos.

Fatai reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and improving security across Lagos State.

He warned cult groups and other criminal elements operating in the state to abandon their activities or face prosecution in accordance with the law.

The Lagos State Police Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police promptly to enable security operatives to respond quickly and prevent crime.
