The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a gun-running syndicate linked to the recovery of an illegal Beretta pistol in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, disclosed this during a press briefing in Asaba, stating that the suspects were arrested during intelligence-led operations carried out in Bayelsa and Imo States.

He explained that the arrests followed investigations into a Beretta pistol recovered at a transport park in Effurun on May 1, 2026.

According to him, “The first suspect, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, was arrested in Bayelsa State on May 4 alongside his roommate, whose phone was allegedly used to facilitate communication for the firearm transaction. Police investigations revealed that Chukwuemeka allegedly purchased the pistol from one Amadi Princewill for ₦290,000 before reselling it to a suspect identified as Desmond, who is currently at large, for ₦380,000.”

He further said, “Desmond reportedly arranged for the weapon to be transported to Effurun and contacted the now-deceased Oghenemine Ogidi to retrieve it and forward it to Sapele.”

Acting on information obtained during interrogation, police operatives tracked and arrested Amadi Princewill in Imo State on May 15.

Further investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, Amadi Felix Chibuike, in Owerri on May 16 after Princewill allegedly confessed to obtaining the firearm from him.

The Commissioner added, “The fourth suspect arrested in connection with the syndicate is Clifford Boleyelefa.”

Police said investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to track other members of the network and recover additional illegal arms.

Suspected kidnappers have killed one resident and abducted another after attacking a residential area in Kubwa, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The incident occurred at the Quarry area of Arab Road between 11 p.m. on Saturday and midnight on Sunday.

The victim who was shot later died in the hospital on Sunday.

A community secretary, identified only as Dairo, said residents first heard gunshots as the attackers reportedly entered the area through a nearby hill and carried out the attack.

He said, “We started hearing gunshots around a house towards the hill and the local security tried to repel them in a gun battle but could not succeed as the assailants entered the victim’s apartment.”

According to him, “After the assailants entered the victim’s apartment, they shot him and took his younger brother away.”

Dairo added that police officers later arrived at the scene, but the attackers had already escaped with the abducted victim.

He described the incident as the third successful kidnapping attack in the area in recent years, noting that the attackers usually gain access through the hill surrounding the community.

He said another resident was kidnapped in May last year but was later released after ransom was paid.

He also explained that kidnappers had attempted to invade the community again two to three weeks earlier but were repelled by local vigilantes and hunters.

Dairo said the community has now strengthened its local security network to respond to repeated attacks.

He called on the government and security agencies to establish a police station in the area or increase patrols to curb further attacks.

Efforts to reach the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
