Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have rescued an abducted victim, killed two suspected kidnappers during a gun battle, and recovered a firearm and cash believed to be proceeds of crime.
The operation was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.
According to the statement, the victim was kidnapped on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Following the report, the police immediately activated the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and deployed intelligence and tactical resources to secure the victim’s release and apprehend those responsible.
Babaseyi said:
“On receiving the report, the command immediately activated its anti-kidnapping unit, deployed intelligence and tactical resources to secure the victim’s release and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
He explained that through intelligence gathering, surveillance operations and sustained pressure on the criminal gang, the victim was eventually released unharmed on June 18, 2026.
The police then intensified efforts to arrest the kidnappers, leading operatives to the gang’s hideout.
According to the statement, the suspects opened fire upon sighting the police team in an attempt to evade arrest.
“The kidnappers on sighting the operatives opened fire in a desperate attempt to resist arrest and escape, but two of them were neutralised while other members of the gang fled the scene with gunshot injuries.”
Items recovered from the operation included a single-barrel gun, an expended cartridge, a mobile phone, and N2.2 million cash suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
Babaseyi stated:
“A search conducted on one of the neutralised suspects led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun, while further examination of the scene yielded one expended cartridge, a mobile phone, and a cash sum of Two Million, Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N2,200,000), reasonably suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.”
The police spokesperson described the operation as evidence of the effectiveness of the intelligence-driven crime-fighting strategy being implemented by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni.
He added that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing gang members while investigations continue.
Commending the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, CP Bode Ojajuni praised the officers for their professionalism, courage and operational effectiveness.
The Commissioner reiterated that Ogun State would remain hostile to kidnappers and other violent criminals, assuring residents that the command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, tactical operations and community partnerships to protect lives and property.
