Police Nab Suspected “One-Chance” Robbers, Recover Stolen Phone In Ogun
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected “one-chance” robbers accused of terrorizing residents around Obantoko and nearby areas.
The suspects, identified as Odunuga Kehinde and Olajide Rasak, were arrested after police received a distress call about a robbery involving a female victim and her two sisters.
According to reports, the victims boarded a Nissan Micra taxi painted in Ogun State colours from the Somorin area while heading to NNPC Kuto to continue their journey to Lagos after attending a wedding anniversary.
However, at the OLG Somorin axis, the occupants of the vehicle allegedly diverted from the agreed route, became aggressive, and forcefully pushed the passengers out of the car.
After leaving the vehicle, one of the victims discovered that her iPhone 12 Pro had been stolen and immediately raised an alarm.
Confirming the incident, Ogun State Police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi said officers from the Obantoko Division quickly responded and arrested the two suspects with the help of members of the public.
He explained that the fast intervention of the police prevented angry residents from attacking the suspects.
Police also recovered the stolen iPhone 12 Pro, while the vehicle allegedly used for the operation escaped from the scene.
Babaseyi said, “Upon receiving the distress alert, operatives of Obantoko Division, in collaboration with members of the public, swiftly mobilised to the scene and arrested two suspects identified as Odunuga Kehinde and Olajide Rasak.
“The timely intervention of the police prevented possible mob action by agitated members of the public. The stolen iPhone 12 Pro was recovered from the suspects, while the alleged operational vehicle reportedly fled the scene.”
He added that the suspects confessed during interrogation and that investigations are ongoing to arrest other members of the robbery syndicate.
The police also advised residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities through official emergency channels.
