Police Nab Two ‘One Chance’ Suspects In Abeokuta, Foil Robbery Attempt

Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected members of a ‘one chance’ robbery syndicate operating in Abeokuta.

The suspects were identified as 42-year-old Olajide Rasaq and 29-year-old Bidemi Tijani.

They were arrested on Saturday following an intelligence-led operation after the police received information that members of the syndicate had been spotted in a vehicle heading towards the Ita-Oshin area of Abeokuta.

According to the police, the suspects allegedly disguised themselves as commercial taxi operators to rob unsuspecting passengers of their phones, cash and other valuables.

Acting on the information, VCRU operatives reportedly pursued the vehicle and intercepted it before arresting the two suspects.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrests on Tuesday.

He said the suspects allegedly confessed during interrogation to being active members of the ‘one chance’ robbery syndicate operating within Abeokuta.

The police said efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the group, determine the full extent of their activities and recover other exhibits.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their swift response and professionalism.

He warned criminals operating in the state that the police would continue to pursue them and urged residents and commuters to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authorities.
