Police Orders Probe Into Death Of Officer Ejeh John In Its Custody
The Taraba State Police Command has ordered a transparent investigation into the death of police officer Ejeh John, who reportedly sustained injuries during an arrest operation and later died while receiving medical treatment.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Victor Mshelizah, said a suspect allegedly connected to the incident had been arrested and was currently in police custody.

The Command said investigation into the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death was ongoing, stressing that the matter would be handled with the seriousness it deserved and in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police, Edwin Obegheghagha, directed that the investigation be conducted professionally, objectively and transparently, with due process strictly followed.
According to the Command, the officer’s death would not be treated lightly or swept under the carpet. It assured that anyone found to have criminal responsibility would face the full weight of the law.
“The Command understands the concerns of the family, colleagues and members of the public and assures them that this is not a matter that will be treated lightly or swept under the carpet,” the statement said.
The police added that it would continue to support and engage the deceased officer’s family, while appropriate welfare and administrative procedures would be pursued in line with existing Nigeria Police Force policies.
The Command appealed to members of the public to remain patient while investigators conclude their work and reiterated its commitment to justice, accountability, professionalism and respect for the rule of law.
