The Portuguese Football Federation has confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo has been provisionally suspended as a disciplinary case is opened against the 41-year-old forward.

Ronaldo will remain under provisional suspension while awaiting the final verdict and decision in the case.

The development follows his sudden departure from the Portugal national team camp, for which the Al-Nassr star publicly apologised and indicated that he was willing to accept punishment.

In its official statement, the federation confirmed that disciplinary proceedings had been initiated against the former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward.

“The initiation of disciplinary proceedings against Cristiano Ronaldo, by deliberation of the Non-Professional Section, of October 9, 2026, with the purpose of the investigation of any disciplinary relevance of the facts participated on October 7,” the statement read.

The federation also explained that Ronaldo’s suspension would continue as part of the disciplinary process, despite the earlier automatic preventive suspension.

“Without prejudice to the automatic preventive suspension to which he was subject until the date of establishment, the non-automatic preventive suspension of the player was determined and the urgent nature was attributed to the process,” the statement added.
