Preseason: Barcelona Cancel Friendly In Morocco

Barcelona have cancelled a planned pre-season friendly in Morocco due to the ongoing migration situation in Ceuta.

The LaLiga club was scheduled to play against a local team in Tangier on August 15 as part of their preparations for the new season.

However, the situation in Ceuta has become uncertain after the Spanish government deployed armed forces to the territory on the North African coast.

The move followed the arrival of thousands of migrants by sea on Thursday and Friday last week.

Barcelona have now decided that it would be inappropriate to continue with the planned friendly under the current circumstances.

“FC Barcelona informs that the men’s first team friendly match in Tangier potentially scheduled for 15 August has been ruled out,” the club said in a statement.

“In light of the current uncertainty and circumstances, FC Barcelona considers playing the match would be inappropriate.”
