The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has described the newly unveiled Order of the Knights of St. Mulumba (KSM) Nigeria Endowment Fund as a landmark initiative that will strengthen humanitarian services, promote sustainable charity, and deepen collaboration between faith-based organisations and government in advancing national development.

Akume made the remarks while delivering his address as Special Guest of Honour at the official unveiling of the KSM Nigeria Endowment Fund held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at St. Gabriel’s Chaplaincy, Catholic Secretariat, Durumi, Abuja.

The SGF said the initiative represents more than the launch of a fundraising platform, describing it as “the institutionalisation of compassion, the sustainability of charity and the deliberate investment in humanity.”

He commended the leadership of the Knights of St. Mulumba Nigeria for their longstanding commitment to Christian values, social justice, moral discipline and community service, noting that the organisation has remained a dependable partner in nation-building through its humanitarian and social interventions.

According to him, the endowment fund will provide a sustainable financial base for the Order’s charitable programmes, educational support initiatives, healthcare interventions, evangelisation efforts and empowerment of vulnerable communities across Nigeria.

Akume stressed that government alone cannot address the country’s developmental challenges, calling for stronger partnerships involving faith-based organisations, the private sector, civil society groups and patriotic citizens to drive inclusive national development.

He said the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to build an inclusive, prosperous and compassionate Nigeria where citizens have opportunities to thrive.

The SGF reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to working with credible religious organisations whose activities complement public efforts in promoting social stability, ethical leadership, peaceful coexistence and human development.
He also appealed to corporate organisations, philanthropists and well-meaning Nigerians to support the endowment fund, describing every contribution as “an investment in hope, dignity and a more compassionate society.”

Akume expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Order for conferring on him the Platinum Medal and Citation, saying the honour serves as an encouragement to continue serving God, Nigeria and humanity with integrity, accountability and compassion.

He dedicated the recognition to God, his family, President Tinubu and Nigerians, whose resilience, he said, continues to inspire the nation’s leadership.

The SGF congratulated the Supreme Knight, Sir Steve Adehi (SAN), the Supreme Executive Board, the Endowment Fund Committee, and members of the Knights and Ladies of St. Mulumba Nigeria for initiating what he described as a legacy that will benefit future generations.

He urged members of the Order to remain committed to the values of faith, charity, integrity, sacrifice, justice and service, expressing optimism that the endowment fund would become a lasting instrument of hope for the poor, support for the vulnerable and a catalyst for national development.
