Storey Building Under Construction Collapses In Sokoto

A two-storey building under construction collapsed on Wednesday in Unguwar Rogo along Bauchi Road in Sokoto metropolis.

Fortunately, all 15 construction workers who were at the site escaped without injuries, and no lives were lost.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), its Sokoto Operations Office received a distress call at about 2:23 p.m. and immediately deployed a Search and Rescue team to the scene.

After assessing the situation, emergency officials confirmed that all the workers were safely accounted for.

“Assessment at the scene revealed that 15 construction workers were present when the building collapsed. Fortunately, none of the workers was trapped or injured, and no casualty was recorded,” NEMA said.

The agency said its rescue team worked alongside other emergency responders to search for anyone who might have been trapped, secure the area and prevent further danger.

The emergency response involved the Federal Fire Service, Sokoto State Fire Service, Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Sokoto State Urban Planning and Development Authority, the State Association of Civil Engineers and members of the local community.

The spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufai, also confirmed the incident, stating that no one was injured or killed.

“No life was lost and no injury was recorded in the incident,” he said.

The owner of the building project, Alhaji Auwal Abubakar, described the collapse as unfortunate but expressed gratitude that all the workers survived.

“It is a painful incident, but I thank God that no life was lost,” he said.

NEMA added that relevant authorities have begun investigations to determine the cause of the building collapse.
