Suspected Bandits Kill One, Abduct Another In Abuja’s Kubwa
Suspected kidnappers have killed one resident and abducted another after attacking a residential area in Kubwa, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The incident occurred at the Quarry area of Arab Road between 11 p.m. on Saturday and midnight on Sunday.
The victim who was shot later died in the hospital on Sunday.
A community secretary, identified only as Dairo, said residents first heard gunshots as the attackers reportedly entered the area through a nearby hill and carried out the attack.
He said, “We started hearing gunshots around a house towards the hill and the local security tried to repel them in a gun battle but could not succeed as the assailants entered the victim’s apartment.”
According to him, “After the assailants entered the victim’s apartment, they shot him and took his younger brother away.”
Dairo added that police officers later arrived at the scene, but the attackers had already escaped with the abducted victim.
He described the incident as the third successful kidnapping attack in the area in recent years, noting that the attackers usually gain access through the hill surrounding the community.
He said another resident was kidnapped in May last year but was later released after ransom was paid.
He also explained that kidnappers had attempted to invade the community again two to three weeks earlier but were repelled by local vigilantes and hunters.
Dairo said the community has now strengthened its local security network to respond to repeated attacks.
He called on the government and security agencies to establish a police station in the area or increase patrols to curb further attacks.
Efforts to reach the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
