AC Milan have announced the departure of two Nigerian players, Victor Eletu and Zachary Athekame, as the Italian club prepares for the 2026/2027 season.

Athekame, who is eligible to represent both Nigeria and Switzerland, joined AC Milan last summer after an impressive season with Swiss club Young Boys.

The young full-back had a good first season in Italy, scoring two goals and providing two assists in 27 league appearances.

However, Athekame struggled to convince new manager Ruben Amorim during pre-season as he adapted to the coach’s tactical system.

Amorim has also used Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze in the wing-back position, which has reduced Athekame’s chances of getting regular playing time.

AC Milan confirmed that Athekame will spend the 2026/2027 season on loan at French club Lyon.

The Italian giants also announced the permanent departure of former Flying Eagles winger Victor Eletu, who has joined Pescara Calcio.

Eletu came through Milan’s youth teams but found it difficult to establish himself in the first team. He will now move to Pescara, a Serie C club, where he hopes to get regular playing time.
