Transfer: Carragher reveals player Arteta failed to sign for Arsenal squad
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has claimed that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta failed to sign a “game changer” during the summer transfer window.
The Gunners strengthened their squad by bringing in Bruno Guimaraes, Christos Tzolis and Ezri Konsa. Arsenal also made Piero Hincapie’s loan move permanent ahead of the new season.
However, Carragher believes Arsenal needed to add a world-class attacking player who could make a major difference to the team.
The north London club was linked with several high-profile forwards, including Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers and Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez. However, none of the players ultimately joined Arsenal.
Carragher said: “Arsenal needed someone to be a game changer. They tried to get Vinicius, they tried to get Alvarez – that’s the calibre of player.
“It’s hard to improve Arsenal now because they are such a good team, such a strong squad.
“So, you’re talking about a world-class player as the only one who can improve them.”
