Manchester City have opened talks with Liverpool over a potential move for Dutch forward Cody Gakpo.

According to reports, City’s interest has intensified late in the summer transfer window, with the deadline approaching on Tuesday. Liverpool are now considering whether to allow Gakpo to leave, while Tottenham also remain interested in the forward.

The proposed transfer is reportedly progressing in Manchester City’s favour, with discussions also ongoing over Gakpo’s personal terms.

The development comes as Liverpool close in on the signing of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola in a deal worth £106 million, potentially rising to £123 million.

Meanwhile, Manchester United youngster James Scanlon has completed a permanent transfer to Arsenal.

The 19-year-old Gibraltar international failed to make a senior appearance for Manchester United but was previously included in the club’s Europa League squad for their trip to Real Sociedad in March 2025.

Scanlon spent last season on loan at Swindon Town, where he made six appearances and scored once.
