Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has advised his former club to make a move for Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Rooney believes the 19-year-old would be an excellent addition to Manchester United manager Michael Carrick’s squad and could provide more options in defence and midfield.

The former England international insisted that signing Lewis-Skelly would be an “absolute no-brainer” if the player becomes available.

“I don’t think you can rely on Luke Shaw to be consistent for the whole season,” Rooney said on the Overlap.

“That leads me to Lewis-Skelly, and we are hearing that he is available for not much money.

“If you can get a player who can play left-back, he can play centre midfield. I think it is an absolute no-brainer if you can bring him in.”

Lewis-Skelly was promoted to Arsenal’s first team in 2024 and has since established himself as one of the club’s promising young players.

The versatile teenager can operate as a left-back or in midfield, which Rooney believes would make him a valuable addition to Carrick’s Manchester United squad.
