UCL: That’s On The Manager – Bruno Fernandes Blames Carrick For Como Defeat

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has criticised manager Michael Carrick’s tactical approach following the club’s disappointing 4-1 defeat to Como in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

Como secured a convincing victory through Nico Paz, who scored twice, while Anastasios Douvikas and Jacobo Ramón also found the net. Joshua Zirkzee scored a late consolation goal for Manchester United.

Speaking after the match, Fernandes was asked about United’s performance and explained that the team had been instructed by Carrick and his coaching staff not to press Como players individually across the pitch.

The Portuguese midfielder said the tactical decision allowed Como too much space and time on the ball, contributing to United’s struggles during the encounter.

“It’s a decision from the staff to not press man-to-man and sometimes leave a little space in behind. To wait for them, to give them the ball,” Fernandes said.

He made it clear that responsibility for the tactical approach rested with the manager and his staff rather than the players.

“That’s on the manager and on the staff to see it, it’s not on me,” the United captain added.
