UCL: ‘They Couldn’t Take It Anymore’ – Roma Boss Hits Back At Mourinho
AS Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini has hit back at Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho following his claim that Roma’s players were “dead” during their dramatic UEFA Champions League defeat to the Spanish giants.
Roma surrendered a 3-1 lead late in the second half, eventually losing 4-3 to Real Madrid in an entertaining encounter.
Real Madrid staged a remarkable comeback, with Arda Guler, Endrick, Carlos Espi and Antonio Rudiger delivering outstanding performances to help their team secure victory.
After the match, Mourinho suggested that Roma’s players had been overwhelmed by the pressure, both physically and mentally, as they struggled to maintain their advantage.
Gasperini rejected the Portuguese coach’s assessment, insisting that Roma had performed better for much of the match. “I don’t think so. It seems to me that if anyone couldn’t take it anymore, it was them. We could have scored a few more goals,” he said.
The Roma manager added that his team had dominated across the pitch despite losing. “They were outclassed in every department. They scored the goals, and they rightly count; they were good at using their physicality. For the rest, they certainly weren’t up to the task,” Gasperini stated.
