UCL: Top Players Go To Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal – Gullit Pities Man United
Former Chelsea star Ruud Gullit has expressed sympathy for Manchester United, arguing that the club lacks the quality needed to compete with the Premier League’s leading teams this season.
Gullit believes United have struggled to attract the top players, with many choosing Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool instead. His comments followed the Red Devils’ 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
The defeat extended Manchester United’s winless run across all competitions to five matches, comprising three losses and two draws, increasing the pressure on manager Michael Carrick and his squad.
Speaking to ComeOn, Gullit said patience would be essential for United as they attempt to rebuild their team and return to competing for major honours.
“The most important thing that Manchester United can show this season is patience. It’s a simple fact. They don’t have the best players in the Premier League anymore,” Gullit said.
He continued: “They all play for the other teams at the moment. United are having to deal with the fact that the players they really need all play for the other clubs. They missed the boat about five or six years ago.”
Gullit added that rebuilding the squad would take time, saying: “The top players went to Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City, and United have missed the boat. It will take some time for them to get themselves in order and return to a level where they can have a chance of winning another Premier League title.”

He concluded: “There are too many stronger contenders with a lot more quality this season.” Manchester United have managed just two victories in nine matches across all competitions this season, highlighting the difficult start to their campaign.
