WAFCON 2026: Madugu Vows To Address Super Falcons’ Defensive Problems

Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu has promised to improve Nigeria’s defensive performance ahead of their WAFCON 2026 quarter-final against Cameroon.

Nigeria have been one of the highest-scoring teams at the tournament, with the defending champions netting nine goals in their three group-stage matches.

However, their defensive record has raised concerns after conceding five goals during the same period.

The situation is a significant change from Nigeria’s previous WAFCON title-winning campaign, where the Super Falcons conceded only three goals in six matches.

Madugu admitted that his team needs to improve defensively and reduce the number of unnecessary goals they have conceded.

“We are a team very solid defensively, but of recent we have been conceding very, very unnecessary goals, which is very worrisome,” Madugu told reporters.

The Super Falcons will face the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in the quarter-finals at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca on Sunday.

The highly anticipated match will kick off at 6pm Nigerian time.
