WAFCON 2026: Malawi Through To Final After Beating Algeria
Malawi have qualified for the final of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after defeating Algeria 3-1 in their semi-final clash on Wednesday evening.
The Scorchers produced an impressive performance to secure their place in Sunday’s final.
Tabitha Chawinga was the star of the match, scoring twice, while her sister Temwa Chawinga also found the net to give Malawi a comfortable lead.
Algeria managed to pull one goal back in the second half through Ikram Adjabi, but they were unable to complete a comeback.
The victory means Malawi will face the winner of the second semi-final between Cameroon and hosts Morocco in the WAFCON final.
Algeria, meanwhile, will have to settle for a place in the third-place playoff, where they will face the loser of the Cameroon vs Morocco semi-final.
