WAFCON 2026: Why Super Falcons Won’t Face Ghana In Quarter-Finals

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will face Cameroon, not Ghana, in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Super Falcons finished second in Group C after defeating Egypt 6-2 on Wednesday. The victory took Nigeria to six points, level with Malawi and Zambia.

However, under CAF’s competition rules, only the matches played between Nigeria, Malawi and Zambia were used to decide the final standings through the head-to-head tiebreaker. As a result, Malawi finished top of the group, Nigeria came second, and Zambia were eliminated.

With CAF using a fixed knockout bracket, the runners-up in Group C are scheduled to face the winners of Group D in the quarter-finals.

Cameroon secured first place in Group D after beating Mali 2-1 and Ghana 1-0. Because of their head-to-head victory over Ghana, the Indomitable Lionesses are guaranteed to finish top of the group.

Ghana can now only finish as Group D runners-up, with second place to be decided after their final group match against Mali on Thursday.
