Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna has broken his silence following the death of his longtime friend and colleague, Alexx Ekubo, describing the loss as one of the most painful experiences of his life.

Alexx Ekubo passed away on May 11 after battling kidney cancer and was later laid to rest in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State.

In an emotional post shared on Instagram, IK reflected on how the tragedy has changed his perspective on life, reminding people not to take tomorrow for granted.

According to the actor, many people live as though there will always be another opportunity to celebrate birthdays, travel, reconnect with loved ones or make up for lost time, but life can change without warning.

He recalled the dreams and conversations he shared with Alexx, saying they often talked about growing old together, building businesses, making movies, travelling the world and raising their future families.

IK admitted he still struggles to understand why his friend died so soon but said his faith has helped him find peace, believing that God’s plans are greater than human understanding.

He also revealed that there are moments when he instinctively reaches for his phone to call Alexx or share something funny with him before remembering that his friend is no longer alive.

Part of his tribute read, “On May 11th, I lost my best friend and brother, Alexx. Nothing prepares you for a loss like that.

“For the past two months, I’ve been trying to understand life, loss and God. The truth is… tomorrow is a privilege, not a promise.

“Alexx and I spoke about everything. We laughed about growing old. We dreamed about businesses, movies we wanted to create, places we wanted to travel and the lives we imagined for our children. We truly believed we had time, but life had another plan.

“There are still moments I instinctively reach for my phone, wanting to call you. Then reality quietly reminds me… I can’t. And that pain never truly leaves.

“Thank you for every conversation, every laugh and every lesson. Until we meet again, my brother, rest well. I love you.”
