‘What Have You Ever Done’ – Rio Ferdinand Questions Portugal Over Ronaldo
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has questioned the treatment of Cristiano Ronaldo by Portugal and called for greater respect for the forward’s career.
Ferdinand made the comments in a post on X following Ronaldo’s departure from the Portugal squad before their UEFA Nations League victory over Denmark on Thursday.
The former England international questioned what Portugal had achieved before Ronaldo became a key figure for the national team, highlighting the impact the Al-Nassr forward has had over the years.
“Where was Portugal before Cristiano Ronaldo? What have they ever done? Did they even qualify for tournaments? Let alone win anything,” Ferdinand said.
Ferdinand also criticised people who judge Ronaldo mainly on his performances during the last few years of his career. He pointed out that the 41-year-old continues to produce impressive numbers despite his age.
“What annoys me is that many people judge him on his last three or four years. He is still producing fantastic numbers for someone of his age,” Ferdinand added.
Ronaldo recently left the Portugal camp amid reports of frustration over his situation under head coach Jorge Jesus. He subsequently missed Portugal’s Nations League match against Denmark.
