Georgina Rodriguez has revealed why she and Cristiano Ronaldo chose to have a private wedding at home instead of holding a large and extravagant ceremony.

Ronaldo and Rodriguez announced their marriage in a joint Instagram post on Tuesday, August 11, after years together.

The couple held a small ceremony in the living room of their mansion in Cascais, Portugal.

Their decision surprised many people who expected the football superstar and his long-time partner to have a lavish wedding.

Speaking to Vogue, Rodriguez explained that her idea of a dream wedding changed as she grew older.

“As a little girl, I envisioned the grandest castle, the most magnificent carriage, the longest gown and a crown adorned with diamonds,” she said.

However, Rodriguez said she eventually realised that she preferred a much more personal and intimate celebration with Ronaldo and their children.

“Now, I find myself saying: no. I desire something intimate, shared with my partner and our children, in the comfort of our home.

“We have access to castles, houses, islands, horses, and cars every day. However, an intimate gathering is something more unique for us,” she said.

The Spanish-Argentine model also explained why their living room was particularly meaningful to them.

She said they wanted their children to grow up remembering the special moment that took place in a familiar part of their home.

“We chose to hold the ceremony in our living room, the place where we share breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and where we experience our daily lives.”

“In 30 years, I want our children to remember that something wonderful occurred at this table, the wedding vows of our parents,” Rodriguez added.
