Why I Lost Most Of My Fans – Lizzo
American singer and rapper Melissa Viviane Jefferson, popularly known as Lizzo, has opened up about the reasons behind the decline in her fanbase over the past few years.
The Grammy-winning artiste made the revelation while responding to a fan on X who pointed out that her fanbase appears to have reduced significantly in the last two years.
According to Lizzo, one major reason for the decline is the music industry’s shift from traditional radio promotion to streaming platforms.
She explained that much of her success was built through radio airplay, which helped many listeners discover her music.
Lizzo described herself as a “radio darling,” noting that the industry’s changing landscape has affected her ability to reach audiences in the same way.
She also claimed that her career has been negatively affected by what she described as public attacks and efforts by some individuals to undermine her success.
The singer said she is doing everything possible to remain relevant and continue moving forward despite the challenges.
In her post, Lizzo wrote:
“…The industry changed so much in the last 3 yrs. Streaming replaced radio and I was a radio darling. That’s how my fans discovered my music. Not to mention the very obvious and public attack on my career changed things.”
The singer’s comments have sparked discussions among fans and music industry observers about how changing listening habits and online controversies can affect an artiste’s popularity and career growth.
