Wike denies lobbying for Tinubu campaign DG
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has formally denied media claims that he is attempting to be appointed Director-General (DG) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).
According to a statement released on Monday in Abuja by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the Minister called the allegations a fiction and wholly untrue.
According to recent reports in a number of media sources, Wike is one of the leading politicians actively pursuing or being considered for the position of campaign leader in advance of the next election cycle.
In response to the rumours, Wike explained that he had never discussed the issue of campaign leadership.
“I never talked to anyone about leadership or even PCC membership,” the Minister declared.
Wike reaffirmed his “unflinching support” for President Bola Tinubu’s reelection campaign, even tho he distanced himself from the campaign DG position. He insisted that in order to produce outcomes for the President, he did not need a formal title within the APC’s campaign organization.
“To contribute my quota, I don’t have to be the DG or even a member of Mr. President’s political party’s Presidential Campaign Council,” Wike claimed. “I’ll make sure Tinubu wins the FCT and Rivers State by large margins.”
The Minister underlined that implementing the President’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” thru FCT infrastructure development and governance continues to be his top priority.
