The Yobe State Police Command has arrested four suspects over separate cases involving theft, assault, and criminal conspiracy. The command also recovered stolen property linked to the incidents.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim.

According to the statement, the first incident occurred on August 2, 2026, at about 3:30 p.m., after a case of theft and assault was reported at the ‘A’ Division in Damaturu.

Police said a 35-year-old suspect allegedly stole a goat at the Sunday Market in Damaturu. While trying to escape, an 80-year-old accomplice reportedly attacked the complainant with a stick, causing injuries to the back of his head.

The statement said:

“Police operatives swiftly responded, arrested both suspects, and recovered the stolen goat and the stick used in the assault as exhibits.

“Investigation into the matter is ongoing.”

In a separate case, police said a complaint of criminal conspiracy and theft involving building materials worth about ₦2.5 million was reported to the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) on August 1, 2026, at about 11:00 a.m.

Following credible intelligence, officers carried out an investigation that led to the recovery of building materials valued at about ₦1.5 million.

The operation also led to the arrest of three suspects who were allegedly found with the stolen materials after receiving and dealing in them.

Police said the recovered items have been kept as exhibits, while efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining stolen materials.

The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, directed investigators to thoroughly conclude both cases and ensure that anyone found guilty is prosecuted according to the law.
