2026 Ballon d’Or: He’s favourite – Deco names player to win award

Barcelona sporting director Deco has backed Lamine Yamal to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or, describing the teenager as his favourite for the award.

Speaking to RAC1, Deco said Yamal was decisive for both Barcelona and Spain during the period under consideration for the prestigious individual prize.

“Lamine should be the favorite for the Ballon d’Or. For me, no doubts,” Deco said.

“Remember everything he’s done with Barça and the national team.”

Deco also pointed to Yamal’s important moments during the past season, including his decision to represent Spain at the 2026 World Cup despite carrying an injury.

“He’s had some decisive moments, even going to the World Cup with an injury. Last season was key.”

Yamal helped Barcelona win both LaLiga and the Copa del Rey last season and was also part of the Spain squad that won the 2026 World Cup in North America. The 19-year-old is among the 30 nominees for this year’s Ballon d’Or.
