Eight high-profile footballers have been left out of the 30-man shortlist for the 2026 Ballon d’Or released on Tuesday.

The biggest name missing is Cristiano Ronaldo, who represents Al Nassr and Portugal. Other notable absentees include Barcelona midfielder Pedri and winger Raphinha.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Desire Doue and Bradley Barcola, Arsenal star Bukayo Saka and Chelsea forward Cole Palmer were also not included.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, who has been among the leading goalkeepers in Europe, was another notable omission from the shortlist.

Despite Ronaldo’s absence, his long-time rival Lionel Messi made the nominees after impressing during what was his final World Cup this summer.

Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Manchester City midfielder Rodri, who are teammates of some of the omitted players at club and international level, were both included on the 30-man shortlist.
