EPL: They’re deluded – Rooney names three Manchester United players not good enough
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has criticised three of the club’s attackers, Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, insisting they are not good enough to help the team win major trophies.
Manchester United signed Sesko, Mbeumo and Cunha during the summer of 2025 in an attempt to strengthen their attacking options and improve their performances.
However, Rooney believes the club would be deluding itself if it expected the trio to lead them to silverware this season.
“They are deluded if they think the front three [Sesko, Mbeumo and Cunha] that they have brought in are good enough; they are not,” Rooney said on Stick To United, while questioning the club’s chances of competing for trophies.
The former United captain also questioned the quality of the players recruited by the club, pointing to their previous teams as he assessed the overall strength of the squad.
“They are bringing players in from Wolves, from Brentford, the squad is absolutely a million miles away from being champions,” Rooney added.
Manchester United have struggled in the Premier League this season, sitting close to the relegation zone after winning just one of their first eight matches.
