Fleetwood Town have secured a place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals after defeating Arsenal in a dramatic penalty shoot-out, knocking the Premier League side out of the competition.

The League Two outfit stunned Mikel Arteta’s men by taking an early lead in the first half through Aaron Loupalo-Bi, whose low shot found the back of the net.

Arsenal responded through Viktor Gyökeres, who scored his first goal of the season to bring the Gunners level at 1-1.

Despite creating several opportunities to find a winning goal, Arsenal failed to break the deadlock at Highbury, forcing the encounter to be decided by penalties.

The shoot-out proved decisive for Fleetwood, with Bruno Guimarães missing a crucial penalty for Arsenal and leaving the Gunners facing elimination.

Conor Haughey subsequently sent goalkeeper Illan Meslier the wrong way with his spot-kick, securing Fleetwood Town’s progression into the quarter-finals.
