EPL: Carrick on the brink as 10-man Man Utd lose 2-0 to Chelsea
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is facing uncertainty over his future following his side’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Red Devils entered the early kick-off under pressure to secure a victory, having been hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone.
Chelsea, meanwhile, were looking to respond positively after their midweek Carabao Cup elimination at the hands of Liverpool.
Manchester United thought they had taken the lead in the first half through Bryan Mbeumo, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Chelsea returned from the break with greater intensity and eventually opened the scoring through an impressive solo effort from Morgan Rogers.
United’s problems worsened when Lisandro Martinez was shown a red card for a foul inside the penalty area, allowing Cole Palmer to convert the resulting spot-kick and secure the 2-0 victory.
