EPL: Van Dijk reveals why Liverpool lost 1-0 to Arsenal
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has expressed his disappointment after the Reds suffered a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in their Premier League encounter on Sunday.
Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the match in the first half, giving the Gunners all three points at Anfield.
Speaking to the media after the game, Van Dijk identified Liverpool’s failure to convert their scoring opportunities as a major reason for the defeat.
“Disappointment, disappointment,” Van Dijk said.
He added: “We had some opportunities, we tried everything. I think we could have maybe done a bit better towards the last 15 minutes of the game to get more balls in the box.”
The Liverpool defender admitted that his team’s efforts were insufficient, saying: “But it wasn’t enough today and that’s why disappointment is definitely the feeling I’m having.”

Van Dijk also reflected on Liverpool’s response after conceding, noting that a big opportunity for Alexis could have changed the outcome. He said the team continued pushing in the second half, but ultimately could not find an equaliser.
