EPL: ‘Best midfielder’ – Carragher hails Arsenal star after 1-0 win at Liverpool

Former England defender Jamie Carragher has described Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice as the best midfielder in the Premier League.

Carragher made the comments while speaking on Sky Sports following Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Rice played a key role in the win, providing the assist for Kai Havertz’s first-half goal, which proved to be the decisive moment of the match.

Speaking about the Arsenal midfielder, Carragher said: “He’s the best midfield player in the Premier League by a long way. It’s not even a debate. Declan Rice is the best midfield player in this country.”

The former Liverpool defender stressed that his assessment was not influenced by support for Arsenal, adding: “I’m not an Arsenal fan, but sometimes I hear people speak about him.”

Carragher also expressed surprise at the criticism Rice sometimes receives, saying: “And I’m sort of flabbergasted that they don’t understand football and they’re not watching the same game as me.”
