The Command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the incident occurred on Tuesday and that investigations have already started.
“Suspected cultists had a clash on Tuesday, and one person was killed. Investigation is ongoing,” he said.
Reports gathered from the area also indicated that two undergraduates were allegedly killed during a cult-related attack at an off-campus apartment in Ede.
Sources said about six students were attacked after suspected cult members reportedly invaded the residence and assaulted them with dangerous weapons.
According to a police source, the incident may be connected to an ongoing rivalry between cult groups operating in the area.
The source explained that the attackers allegedly stormed the apartment at night during what was described as a revenge mission.
“The attack occurred in the night. The students were in their room when some cultists who were on a revenge mission forced their way into the apartment and started attacking them with dangerous weapons.
“The students sustained varying degrees of injuries, and two later succumbed to their injuries,” the source said.
Other injured victims are reportedly receiving treatment at a hospital.
Reports also suggested that the clash involved members of the Aye and Buccaneer confraternities.
