Champions League: Joe Cole predicts team to win trophy this season

Former England and Chelsea winger Joe Cole has backed Real Madrid to win the Champions League trophy this season.

Cole does not believe any Premier League club, including defending champions Arsenal, will lift the European trophy despite the Gunners’ impressive start to the season.

Arsenal reached the Champions League final last season but lost to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties after taking the lead. Mikel Arteta has since strengthened his squad with Bruno Guimarães, Ezri Konsa and Christos Tzolis.

However, Cole believes Real Madrid have what it takes to go all the way, particularly with Jose Mourinho back in charge and the final set to be played at Atletico Madrid’s stadium.

“I’ve chosen Real Madrid. Considering Jose Mourinho’s return and the final being held at Atletico’s stadium, he embodies a captivating narrative as a manager, and I can envision him achieving success.”

Cole also defended Mourinho from those who believe the Portuguese manager is past his best, insisting he remains capable of succeeding with top players.

“Many have dismissed him, but I believe he remains exceptional and is particularly well-suited to work with elite players. I have confidence in them. Ultimately, success hinges on the players, but a harmonious relationship with the manager is essential.”

Real Madrid have already made a winning start to their Champions League campaign, defeating Inter Milan 2-1 on Tuesday night, and Cole believes their form could carry them all the way to European glory.
