Former governor of Kano State and Vice Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has issued a stern warning to the Kano State Government following the brutal killing of renowned social media political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu.

‎In a statement posted on his official Facebook page late Wednesday, Kwankwaso described the murder as a “horrific attack” and urged Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration to immediately constitute an investigative panel to probe the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

‎Kwankwaso cautioned that failure to act decisively would compel the incoming NDC government to reopen the case once it assumes office.

‎“Should the authorities fail to take decisive and transparent action, the incoming NDC Government will, upon assumption of office, launch a full investigation and take all necessary steps to hold those responsible accountable,” Kwankwaso declared.

‎The opposition leader further called on both state and federal authorities to ensure the protection of opposition voices, stressing that freedom of expression is guaranteed under the Nigerian Constitution.

‎“The Nigerian authorities must ensure a full investigation and that those responsible are held accountable,” he added, while extending condolences to the family, friends, and followers of the slain commentator.

‎Dan Shagamu, a 54-year-old father of six, was found murdered in his home in Gaida, Kumbotso LGA, sparking outrage across the state.

Amnesty International has also condemned the killing, warning of rising threats against journalists and commentators ahead of the 2027 elections.

‎Police in the state have already confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the killing, as investigation continues.

The state police command said upon completion of the investigation, the suspects will be arraigned before court.
