AFCON 2027Q: Ilenikhena Ready To Make Super Eagles Debut Against Madagascar

Al-Ittihad striker George Ilenikhena is excited about the opportunity to represent the Super Eagles and is looking forward to making his senior international debut.

The 20-year-old received his first invitation from head coach Éric Chelle for Nigeria’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

Ilenikhena described his first call-up as a major honour and said he is proud to be part of the three-time African champions at this stage of his career.

“It is an honour to be here. I am proud and happy to be part of this big national team, and for me, it’s a big deal,” he said during a media parley in Uyo.

The young striker also spoke about joining a squad filled with experienced and accomplished players, saying he understands the importance of the opportunity at his age.

“I am just 20 years old, and I am here with big and already accomplished players,” Ilenikhena said.

He also praised the atmosphere within the Super Eagles camp, revealing that he quickly felt welcomed by his teammates. “The team spirit is very good. I just arrived yesterday (Tuesday), and I can see that everyone is together like a big family, and that’s very good,” he added.
