Argentina: ‘We’ll Have To Do It’ – Lionel Messi’s Replacement, Mastantuono Speaks Out

Franco Mastantuono has spoken about Argentina’s upcoming era without Lionel Messi, admitting that the departure of the legendary captain will be difficult for the national team.

The 19-year-old Fiorentina forward is regarded as one of the young players expected to play an important role in Argentina’s next generation.

Argentina are preparing to begin life without Messi for the first time since 2005, with Mastantuono expected to compete for the position previously occupied by the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Mastantuono admitted that seeing Argentina play without Messi will be an emotional experience, describing the veteran forward as an idol to the entire country.

“It’s difficult. After Leo, it’s very difficult for everyone because he’s our idol, not just in football. I think he’s an idol for the whole country, and it’s going to be sad without him, but we’re going to have to do it for Argentina and for him,” Mastantuono said, as quoted by Sportskeeda.

Mastantuono currently plays for Fiorentina and operates in a similar position to Messi. He will now look to establish himself in Lionel Scaloni’s squad following Messi’s departure from international football.
