British broadcaster Piers Morgan has named his top three greatest Ballon d’Or winners of all time, placing Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo at the top of his list.

Morgan shared his selections on X on Tuesday, ranking the former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward as the greatest winner in the history of the prestigious individual football award.

The 61-year-old placed Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazário in second position, while the late Dutch football icon Johan Cruyff completed his top three.

Argentina captain Lionel Messi was notably absent from Morgan’s selections, despite having won the Ballon d’Or eight times during his illustrious career.

Messi’s omission is particularly striking given his record number of wins, which has made him one of the most decorated players in the award’s history.

Morgan’s rankings come after France Football, the organisers of the Ballon d’Or, launched the “Ballon d’Or of All Time” (B.O.A.T.) fan poll, inviting supporters to vote for historic award-winning seasons.
