A 29-year-old barber, Emmanuel Olatonok, has been arrested by the Jigawa State Police Command for allegedly stabbing a 32-year-old man, Ibrahim Shago, to death following an argument in Dutse.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.

He said the incident occurred at about 5:45pm on Thursday, October 29, 2026, in the Rafin Sanyi area of Dutse Local Government Area.

According to him, the suspect, who works as a barber in a hotel in the area, allegedly stabbed the victim in the neck with a knife following a disagreement.

The police spokesman said the suspect was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred.

He added that the victim was rushed to a hospital for medical attention but was later pronounced dead by a doctor.

Adam said the incident triggered tension in the area, as some youths gathered at the scene and attempted to vandalise the hotel.

However, police operatives from Dutse Division intervened and brought the situation under control, preventing further violence and destruction of property.

He confirmed that the suspect was in police custody, adding that investigations were ongoing and he would be charged to court upon their conclusion.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, condemned the resort to violence in settling disputes and urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding.

He advised members of the public to report grievances to the appropriate authorities rather than resorting to violence.
