CAF Champions League: Rivers United ready for San Pedro battle – Finidi George
Rivers United technical adviser, Finidi George, has expressed confidence that his team is ready for their CAF Champions League encounter against San Pedro of Ivory Coast.
The Port Harcourt-based club will travel to the San Pedro Stadium on Saturday night for the first leg of their first preliminary-round fixture.
Rivers United will be hoping to begin their continental campaign on a positive note as they face a San Pedro side determined to take advantage of home support.
The Nigerian club also featured in last season’s CAF Champions League, where they progressed to the group stage. However, Finidi believes the current squad is still gaining valuable experience.
“So, it’s a new team that we’ve now. We’re also looking forward to that experience. We don’t have three, four seasons experience of CAF Champions League,” Finidi told a press conference.
The former Super Eagles coach pointed out that Rivers United have undergone significant changes, with several new players joining the squad.
“So, we’re new as well because there’s a whole lot of new players in the team,” he added.
Finidi will be hoping the new-look Rivers United side can adapt quickly and produce a strong performance away from home.
